Roanoke's Annual Barbershop Harmony Show
Saturday, November 4, 2006
Northside High School Auditorium

August 3, 2006 - by Tom Calhoun, VP public relations

Spend an afternoon or evening with the Virginia Gentlemen Barbershop Harmony Chorus at their 37th annual show entitled "A Taste of the South".  This year's show will be a musical salute to the original eleven southern states. The show program will be sprinkled with recipes for traditional southern dishes. The show is being performed in the Northside High School Auditorium on Saturday, November 4, 2006. Show times are 2:00 and 7:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at The Arts Council of the Blue Ridge at 20 Church Avenue SE in Roanoke or by contacting Buford Firebaugh at (540) 362-8486 or 362-4886.
The Virginia Gentlemen chorus continues to perform at a high level. Under the leadership of Chorus Director Erin Odell, the 26-man chorus qualified this spring for the third time in its 37-year history, and the third year in a row, to compete in district competition in Wildwood, New Jersey.

The Four Aces

The show's headline quartet, Four Aces, is the 2006  International Barbershop Harmony Society Mid-Atlantic District Champion, and placed 12th at the Society's 2006 International Quartet Contest this July. Each of these talented musicians has an impressive musical resume that includes both quartet and chorus medals.  To cite one example, Richard Lewellen (baritone), in addition to his achievements this year, has also been in two winning quartets in other districts and after becoming musical director for the Alexandria Harmonizers chorus in 2003 led them to a 4th place Bronze medal at the 2004 International Chorus Competition.

All tickets are general admission. Ticket prices are as follows:

Adults - $12 in advance and $15 at the door
Seniors (60 and above) - $10 in advance, and $12 at the door
Students - $5 in advance and $7 at the door
Groups of eight (8) or more seniors - $8 in advance only.

A portion of the proceeds from the show will be donated to the Virginia Gentlemen, John Tully Memorial Scholarship Fund. The Fund awards a scholarship each year to a high school senior who has shown exceptional talent, leadership and dedication in his or her high school vocal music program. The Virginia Gentlemen Barbershop Harmony Chorus is a 501(c)3 organization.
